A Letter to My Mom – by Dave Dadic

A Letter to My Mom by Dave Dadic

Dear Mom,

I miss you. A lot.

It’s been 11 years since I last saw you, but so much has happened since then.

I’ve married Nicki. You would have loved the wedding; there were a lot of tears. Many about you.  We’ve been married for over 8 years now, and I love her more now than ever. She’s my light.

I’ve had 2 boys. They are the most incredible children. Luca is sweet and intelligent. Mika is full of life and has the most incredible smile. My love for them knows no bounds. For their own reasons they both remind me so much of you.

I’ve moved countries. You won’t believe it, but we’ve moved to the city where you grew up. Immigrating has been very difficult, leaving friends, family and familiarity behind. I don’t know how you did it – moving to Johannesburg when you were so young (and pregnant), must have been so tough. Makes me think ours has been easy.

As you can see so much has happened since I last saw you.

As you can see so much has happened since I last saw you.  So much that you had been through and were amazing at. I would give anything to just be able to pick up the phone, or meet you for a coffee, and ask you what to do. I remember mechanically dialling your number a few times after the last time we saw each other – you were always my voice of reason and advice when I needed it.

You were the most wonderful mother to Ivan and me. I know that I was challenging in my teens, but you loved me unconditionally and taught me that family is first. I pray that I can instil that in the boys and that they grow up to need me like I needed you. You would have been the most doting granny.

I miss you. A lot.

Even though you’re not here, it’s because of you and how you raised me that I have even the slightest chance of being the man I need to be. I just wish you were here. Thank you.

I miss you. A lot.

Love Davs
