A LETTER TO MY MOM by Brad Slaughter

A Thank You Letter from Brad Slaughter

Mom,

Since the divorce years ago, I have been your confidant and close friend. We’ve always shared everything with each other, especially the thoughts that keep us up at night. I know that you think our family is broken and split up, and that you feel it’s your fault. I wish there was a way I could convince you the opposite is true.

We are survivors of abuse. This abuse is a virus that infected our emotions, personality and relationships. No matter what others said, the bravest thing you ever did was to get the divorce. If we were to have been there longer, we would be worse off.

Our whole lives you have always done what you thought was best for us.

Our whole lives you have always done what you thought was best for us. I know the only reason you stayed with him was to keep the family together, but you never deserved that punishment. Don’t blame yourself for caring about us more than anything.

Your sons and daughter don’t blame you for anything, you did nothing wrong. We love you and want you to be happy. You have continued to do so much for us, and there’s nothing we would ever want to change about you.

Mom, thank you for everything that you have done. You have inspired me to be all that I can be. You’re the strongest woman I’ve ever met and a joy to everyone around you. You have always been there for everyone else, and I will do everything in my power to give you the best life has to offer.

                                Thank you. You are amazing!

Love, your son
