Check on Me: A toddler bedtime story

Check on Me

Check on me by Andrew Daddo and Jonathan Bentley is our 5th book in the NSW Premier Reading Challenge. It’s another book we’ve had in our bookcase for quite some time. I’m glad it’s on the reading list because I forgot all about despite how relevant it is to my kids at this age.

Check on me is a really easy read with big letters and lovely bright pictures. The plot is simple and aimed at pre-schoolers and young kids.

I would read this book at a time other than bedtime or before a second story.

Check on Me

The Storyline

Check on me is the story of a little one who doesn’t want to go to sleep. He has his “best” sleep routine all mapped out. It includes having lots of stories, going to the bathroom, needing a drink of water … sound familiar?

It is virtually what happens in our house except one of our children climbs out his bed and walks around for ages every night and the other one sings songs from Frozen.

The book has really lovely drawing in and is very simple and easy to follow for little kids. We’ve been reading this book to our kids since they were toddlers.

The only problem with this book is that if your children haven’t already started doing all these things before they go to bed, they may start now.

Our previous books

As part of the Premier Reading Challenge, we have also read:  Thelma the Unicorn,  The Cat in The Hat and Guess How Much I Love You. There are reviews of each of these books on the sight. You can find the reviews by searching for them or just clicking the name of each book.

NSW Premier Reading Challenge

If you don’t know about the NSW Premier Reading Challenge, it is an initiative by the department of education to promote literacy and reading. It is not a competition!
