More Nursery Rhymes about Numbers

Counting Nursery Rhymes are fantastic for kids and here are more Nursery Rhymes about Numbers.

Nursery Rhymes like this teach kids numbers subliminally. Counting, subtraction and maths all becomes simplified and fun. There are already four nursery rhymes on the site which you can access here.

Here are five more nursery rhymes about numbers for you to add to your collection.

Five Fat Sausages

This is a great song to help kids understand the basics of subtraction. My 4 year old loves singing songs like this but he is still in the stage of guessing which number comes next.

The trick with this rhyme and the other Nursery Rhymes about Numbers is to use your fingers to guide your child to see which number comes next.

“Four fat sausages frying in a pan
All of a sudden – one went bang!

Three fat sausages frying in a pan
All of a sudden – one went bang!

Two fat sausages frying in a pan
All of a sudden – one went bang!

One fat sausage frying in a pan
All of a sudden – it went bang!

No fat sausages frying in a pan.”

Three blind mouse

This is not exactly one of the Nursery Rhymes about Numbers as there is only one reference to a number, the number three. But it does deserve to be included on that basis.

The problem with three blind mice and a lot of other nursery rhymes is that they are actually really scary if you take away the sing song tune.

I suggest singing this song or saying this nursery rhyme while your kids are still really young so that they can’t process the lyrics properly. I think a child between the ages of two and three would love to have this song sung to them so that they can see three fingers and relate it to the age they are turning next.

Knick knack paddy wack

Otherwise known as This Old man, this Nursery Rhyme about counting takes you all the way to ten. This song can go on for a while if you follow it all the way through but thankfully the words are easy to remember.

I’ve included all the verses underneath the picture if you’ve forgotten them after not hearing them for a while.

This old man he played one

This old man, he played two,
He played knick-knack on my shoe;
With a knick-knack paddywhack,
Give the dog a bone,
This old man came rolling home.

This old man, he played three,
He played knick-knack on my knee;
With a knick-knack paddywhack,
Give the dog a bone,
This old man came rolling home.

This old man, he played four,
He played knick-knack on my door;
With a knick-knack paddywhack,
Give the dog a bone,
This old man came rolling home.

This old man, he played five,
He played knick-knack on the hive;
With a knick-knack paddywhack,
Give the dog a bone,
This old man came rolling home.

This old man, he played six,
He played knick-knack with my sticks;
With a knick-knack paddywhack,
Give the dog a bone,
This old man came rolling home.

This old man, he played seven,
He played knick-knack up to heaven;
With a knick-knack paddywhack,
Give the dog a bone,
This old man came rolling home.

This old man, he played eight,
He played knick-knack on my gate;
With a knick-knack paddywhack,
Give the dog a bone,
This old man came rolling home.

This old man, he played nine,
He played knick-knack on my spine;
With a knick-knack paddywhack,
Give the dog a bone,
This old man came rolling home.

This old man, he played ten,
He played knick-knack once again;
With a knick-knack paddywhack,
Give the dog a bone,
This old man came rolling home.

Five Little Speckled Frogs

This is another good Nursery Rhyme about Numbers that helps kids understand the basics of subtraction.

I haven’t included all the lyrics because each verse is a repetition of the one in the picture, less one number.

FIVE LITTLE SPECKLED FROGS

One Two Three Four Five, Once I caught a fish alive

This is also an action song. Make sure to use your fingers to show the kids which number you’re talking about and then your little finger to demonstrate the end of the song.

Why is it here

The whole reason behind incorporating Nursery Rhymes on the site is to help you find new ones or remind you about old ones you may have forgotten you knew. So often as parents we land up repeating the same songs and rhymes to our children, to the point that we can’t think of a single new one. This section is dedicated to you not losing your mind.

Use this resource

Each of  the Nursery Rhymes, these Nursery Rhymes about Numbers and the others are all in photograph form and with realistic images. This is done intentionally so that you can save them to your phone so that you have them at hand.

You can show the kids the photos so they can associate the words with relevant images and so that they begin to remember their favourites based on the visual and not just the audio.
