Crows Nest TAFE Playgroup

Crows Nest TAFE Playgroup

The BEST Playgroup on Sydney’s North Shore

Crows Nest TAFE Playgroup is THE playgroup to take your child to. It is so good but it’s almost impossible to find information on it. I wonder if this is because it doesn’t need to be publicized for it to have tremendous support.

How did I find it?

I heard about it by way of mouth. Subsequently I spent ages trying to  track down information. I tried to phone a number I found and got zilch so I googled and googled and came up with nothing.  Eventually I found a small article about it online and thought I would just rock up at the location and try my luck.

Official Address

The playgroup is situated at the TAFE Crows Nest Campus, 149 West Street.

Parking

The parking in the streets surrounding TAFE is a nightmare. We park in the Holtermann Street Car Park on the corner of Holtermann and Zig Zag lane. The car park is free for 2 hours and then approximately $5 for every hour thereafter.

The car park I’m talking about is the one that backs onto the Crows Nest Community Centre. The parking gets full quickly and By 9:40am you have to park a number of levels up. The walk from Holtermann Car Park to TAFE is about 5 minutes and it’s pram friendly the whole way.

[QUICK SIDEBAR: If you’re parking here note that the only meter is on the 2nd floor so pay there before going to get your car otherwise you’ll be stuck with nowhere to stop to pay. ]

What’s at the playgroup

The facility is awesome. It has an inside and outside area with different play stations set up. I really love visiting with my two pre-schoolers as it has almost everything you can imagine.

By way of an example, the following are available:

  • painting
  • musical instruments
  • reading area
  • puzzle table
  • swing set
  • sandpits with a water pump

Inside there are also areas which are set up for babies with soft toys and couches for moms.

My children love visiting this playgroup as do I. It is just so well put together, monitored and so very clean!

Playgroup Facilities

There are students on hand to watch over your kids if you are darting between two play areas or running with a child to the bathroom.

Close Coffee

You can get coffee from the TAFE canteen and a bite to eat just be aware that you are just not allowed taking hot drinks into the playgroup area. Your other coffee option is to get coffee on your walk from the Holtmann parking lot to the playgroup which should give you enough time to drink it on your way over.

Bathroom

There is a big bathroom inside has changing mats for babies and there are little toilets for the toddlers. It’s really set up like a classroom minus the formal seating.

Shade cover

The playgroup area is well shaded with shade cloths and by the big trees. I would however make sure to pack a hat because it is gets hot and there are sunny spots.

Fenced in

The whole area is fenced and there is generally some one who monitors the gate so you don’t have worry about your kids escaping. Although, my two, who are very good at darting in different directions were so engrossed in all the activities on offer that they didn’t once go near the gate or the fence.

Operating Hours and Cost

The playgroup runs from Monday to Thursday and starts at 10am and finishes at noon.

The playgroup is very relaxed so it is not a problem if you’re late or need to leave early. You can come and go from the playgroup as you please. We had to dash out to get the kids something to eat half way through the playgroup.

You pre-purchase attendances but it will be worth your while. You will have to pay for more than one up front so just be prepared.

Consent

You have to consent to your child being observed by the teachers in training. Student teachers may sit and play with your child and ask you a question or two as this playgroup is organised by TAFE . We have only ever been asked one question but have had tons of help from the student teachers.

  1. This is awesome! I hope we have one in our place too. Playing outdoors with friends used to be the norm but now you’d have to literally search for a good and safe place to play. I love that their spaces are open to nature. I’m sure my kids would enjoy this too. Thank you for sharing. 🙂
