Kid Friendly Weddings: Fun Ideas to Keep the Little Ones Entertained
Planning on having a lot of kids at your upcoming wedding? Planning a kid friendly wedding isn’t as challenging as you may anticipate and can actually be a lot of fun! Here are 10 tips to planning kid friendly weddings and keeping the little ones busy and entertained!
1. Create fun packages just for kids, that include items such as colorful sun glasses, non-toxic washable markers, a small activity book, stickers, disposable cameras, sweet treats and more. You can even personalize what’s inside by adding a unique gift for each little guest.
2. Designate an activity table just for kids. This table can have board games, coloring books & crayons, crafting items, scrapbooks, Lego’s or other fun building materials. How about making their own kites?
3. DIY Dessert Buffet: Can’t go wrong with a build your own Sunday bar or decorate your own giant cupcake. It’s recommended to have a grown up there to help supervise and assist the little ones.
4. Place customized wedding themed coloring books with non-toxic crayons at each kid’s place setting. You can DIY the coloring book drawing your own funny pictures. For example, the bride & groom doing a silly dance, a dog eating the wedding cake, or a frog wedding singer just to name a few.
5. Provide outdoor games including bean bag toss, ring toss, lawn bowling, Jenga, tic-tac-toe, hula-hoops, pinatas, a bouncy house, and more. What’s great about outdoor games is that most can be easy and fun DIY projects, and fairly inexpensive. Adults love them too!
6. Reserve a separate room at your venue with a TV for movies or cartoons, tables with fun kid activities, a variety of toys and more. Hire a reputable nanny or babysitting service and let the grown ups enjoy some kid free time.
7. Provide kid friendly food. Most kids are really picky when it comes to food, but there are a few items that seem to be universal crowd pleasers. We recommend small bites like mini hot dogs, mini grilled cheese sandwiches, PBJ’s, quesadilla’a, french fries, or fried macaroni balls. Try to avoid rich sauces, a variety of herbs, heavy meats or tons of veggies.
8. Give them a place setting they can get creative with. For example, a plastic place mat or a plate that they can color, decorate and take home at the end of the event. It’s a fun souvenir for the kids and the parents.
9. Hire entertainers like face painters, clowns, children’s singer/songwriters, story tellers, or other fun kids party professionals.
10. Video games for all ages. Create a few video game stations with different games at each one. Select age appropriate games and avoid anything promoting violence or suggestive adult behavior.
The most important thing to planning a kid friendly wedding, is get familiar with the age groups that will be attending, select age appropriate items & activities, choose non-toxic and washable items for gifts, and provide allergy friendly foods.
