The Top 15 things to do with kids in Seminyak

With so many families frequenting Bali I had to include it on the 2018 AllThingsMomSydney World Tour. It was a mission to find a mom blogger who could offer us insight into her Island so when Bali Villas said they would help me out by sharing their ideas with us, I was stoked!

Luci has put together a great post on the Top 15 things to do with kids in Seminyak and surrounds. It even includes some great ideas closer to Ubud. Of course, it had to include the Monkey Forest!!

I’m so grateful that Bali Villas stepped up to help us out with the Top 15 Things to do with Kids in Seminyak. Thank you so much Luci for this wonderfully helpful post. Not only does the post have things to do in Seminyak but in the surrounding areas too. Luci has even set out how far away each place is. This must surely be the best list of the Top 15 things to do with kids in Seminyak.

I can’t wait to check them out for myself when we come to Bali!!

I suppose the only real problem with this post is that once you’ve seen Bali Villas’ accomodation, you won’t want to go anywhere else.

Introducing the Top 15 Things to do with kids in Seminyak and surrounds.

Taking the kids on holiday can be a fun and rewarding experience … When it’s all goes to plan that is. It’s a great way to show them the world and give them experiences they cannot have back at home. But truly there’s nothing worse than when you’re in an incredible, new destination, miles from home, than hearing those two dreaded words: “I’m bored”.

Those who have spent any time in Bali will know that it is a brilliant place to bring kids. There are so many exciting activities for kids to do. But the hassle of organising a car or facing a long bike ride, especially when coupled with the island’s not always amazing road system can sometimes make the thought of a long journey a bit daunting. But, if you choose your location well when booking your trip, this need not be an issue as many of the island’s towns are full of options for a great family day out.

Seminyak, for example, is a fantastic place to take your kids to, provided you know the right places.

With that in mind I’ve put together a list of activities, in and around the Seminyak area that are great fun for the whole family.

Top 15 things to do with kids in Seminyak (and surrounds)

1. Surfing Lessons

You can do this in Seminyak and in surrounding areas.

There are so many surf schools lining the beaches of Seminyak that choosing one can be hard. Not all surf schools have lessons for children so be sure to choose one that is qualified to teach under 13s. Rip Curl School of Surf is a great example of a good surf school. The instructors are fantastic with kids and it’s a great way to tire them out!

If you’re worried about their safety, you can rest assured knowing that the break (most days) is perfect for beginners. And, nearly all surf schools also have soft boards and helmets for the little ones.

2. Cooking Class

If you have a budding Master Chef in the family, why not help expand their culinary horizons by booking an Indonesian cooking class. There are tons of places that run these courses around Seminyak, so you might want to do a little research to find which one will best fit your schedule / budget.

The classes all generally follow a similar pattern. It starts with an early morning trip to a local market to look for ingredients which is followed by the actual cooking lesson.  Finally and best of all, you get the chance to relax and feast on all the wonderful food you have just produced.

Introducing the Top 15 Things to do with kids in Seminyak and surrounds. What about cooking classes.

3. Sundays at Ku De Ta

The famous KuDeTa completely switches their vibe from a happening bar, to a kid friendly playground on a Sunday morning.

From 9am – 12pm, your little ones are able to swim in the pool, get their face painted, jump on the jumping castle and take part in some fun arts and crafts.

There is also a specific menu just for the kiddies on Sundays as well. It also fantastic for parents, as you will be able to slip away and grab a beach lounge and cocktail!

4. Host a ‘Purti Siren’ party

This is one for all the water-babies out there! Purti Siren, makes a range of mermaid / mermen tails that can be either bought or rented. Best of all, for a fraction of the cost you would pay back home they will will send out one of their entertainers to put on an unforgettable ‘mer-themed’ party.

They will come to both public and private pools.

5. Get a family-friendly spa treatment

Bali is world famous for its spas, and Seminyak has some of the best on the island.

Many of these are starting to develop kid friendly treatments, including manicures, pedicures, massages and full body treatments.

At Jari Menari, they are known for their child massage and you can book out an entire room, so you can enjoy your treatments in total privacy.

The Day Glo Spa is another great option, kids will love the colourful decor, not to mention their chocolate and vanilla massage oils.

6. Frankenstein’s Laboratory

Frankenstein’s is Bali’s only Halloween themed restaurant, right in the heart of Seminyak. Family friendly sessions are held every day between 4.30 & 8.15pm.

If you are looking for something a little more unusual for dinner then this is a good place to start.

You can enjoy monster bites, creepy cocktails and live music. Just keep  an eye out for vampires, zombies and all manner of things that go bump in the night!

Some of the evening events may prove a little scary for very young children, but family friendly sessions are suitable.

7. Waterbom Park

Kuta is 5kms away from Seminyak and home to Waterbom Park. Waterbom is Bali’s famous waterpark and a definite port of call for all families with kids.

There are several pools and plenty of slides suitable for all ages. There are even a few that will provide thrills for grown up adrenaline junkies.

I recommend booking a private pavilion for the day which will give you somewhere to leave your things and base yourselves as you explore the park and try out all of the rides! This one will be sure to have the kids passed out by 7pm!

8. Go to the movies

Suggesting at trip to the cinema may seem like an odd choice on a list of things to do in Seminyak, but at the end of a long hot afternoon, or one of Bali’s rare overcast days, it can make for an interesting change of pace.

Not only that, but cinemas in Bali are incredibly good value for money – you can enjoy the latest blockbusters from the comfort of an executive lounge chair and have catering throughout the movie – all for, probably less than you would spend back home for a standard ticket.

Kuta is home to the closest movie cinema to Seminyak.

9. Bali Safari & Marine Park

Home to over 1,000 animals, including many that are rare or endangered, a trip to the Bali Safari & Marine Park can make for a fun and educational day out.

If you have time, be sure to check out the ‘Agung Show’. It’s an incredible theatrical production where over 150 dancers take their audience through some amazing stories from Balinese folklore.

The Bali Safari and Marine Park are in Gianyar, approximately 32 kilometres away from Seminyak.

10. Monkey Forest

This is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Bali! Just about everyone who has visited Bali has been there at some point.

In Ubud, 32 kms from Seminyak is the Monkey Forest. This amazing site comprises 12 hectares of forested is home to about 700 macaque monkeys, over 180 species of trees and three Hindu temples.

The backdrop of jungle and ancient building makes this an excellent location for a game of Indiana Jones! Just remember to take off anything shiny including jewellery and glasses before venturing inside. If you don’t, you risk becoming the victim of an avaricious monkey!

11. Banana Boat Ride

The beach at Tanjung Benoa is not known for its great surf but its calm waters make it perfect for many other water-sports.Tanjung Benoa is 22 kms from Seminyak and a hot spot for water activities.

At high tide, jet skies, para-sailors and banana boats go zooming up and down the length of the beach. Banana boats are a great option for a family, big enough to fit everyone onboard and not too scary for little kids.

Just make sure you check the tides before heading to Tanjung Benoa as watersports are not possible at low tide.

13. The Joglo

The Joglo has a beautifully designed playground and runs a series of morning and after school activities.  The program includes cooking and crafts for children aged one to ten years old.

Whilst the kids are playing, the grownups can relax and enjoy a coffee or partake in a bit of Pilates.

You’ll find Berawa 7 kms outside of Seminyak.

14. Dream Museum Zone Trick-Eye Gallery

Close to Seminyak, just 2 kms in Legian is the Dream Museum Zone Trick Eye Gallery.

This is an interactive art gallery with over 120 pieces of 3D art allowing you to ‘travel’ from the pyramids of Egypt to an undersea realm.

It is a great option for an early morning activity if you have more planned for the afternoon, as it doesn’t take a large amount of energy.

Just remember to bring your camera!

15. Bali Treetop Adventure Park

Take to the treetops and experience Bali from a whole new perspective.

There are multiple circuits through the trees, designed for different age ranges and levels of ability.

The easiest are suitable for children as young as four whilst the most challenging have breathtaking jumps for young thrill-seekers. You also wont want to miss out the 160m flying fox if you manage to visit the Adventure Park.

This activity is a bit further away as it is in Bedegul which is 54 kms from Seminyak.

Introducing the Top 15 Things to do with kids in Seminyak and surrounds. Taking the kids on holiday can be a fun and rewarding experience … When it’s all goes to plan that is.

As you can see, there is no reason for the kids to ever be ‘bored’ whilst in Bali! Just make sure you don’t forget to fit in a little ‘parent’ or ‘me’ time as well!
