The Joneses, PE

Last week we found a reason to meet dear friends for lunch. The said dear friends were coming from Cape Town so I wanted to make sure they would get some good PE food. I had heard positive things about The Joneses in Walmer so was keen to try it out. Who knew that The Joneses was literally a bridge walk away from The Tree House Kids Fun Centre! The Joneses coupled with the Tree House Kids Fun Centre was a perfect long lunch venue.

 

 

Relationship between the Joneses and Tree House

This post is going to focus on The Joneses so that if you’re not in the “kid phase” of life or looking to venture out without the kids you can read on here. If you are looking for further information on The Tree House Kids Fun Centre you will have to read Tree House Play Centre.

 

 

Where is The Joneses?

Both The Joneses and Tree House Kids Fun Centre are in the Bloomingdales Complex . Both can be found at Bloomingdales Lifestyle Village, 145 Walmer Main Road, Walmer, Port Elizabeth.

 

Parking

There is parking outside the front of the centre but not a lot so I can imagine that on busy busy days – weekends and during holidays – there may be a bit of a wait for parking.

 

If you park outside the front and enter through the main door (not the main bloomingdales door) you will wait straight into The Joneses if you keep on walking straight.

 

You will enter into the open plan inside seating – try not to get distracted by the amazing treats table lain with a thousand delicious baked goods.

 

The Joneses Features 

While the inside seating is generally open plan there are a few little corners where you could hide for a romantic dinner. There is seating in an enclosed outside area overlooking the nursery which is just beautiful or outside seating underneath umbrellas that overlooks a koi pond and into one of the play areas at Tree House Kids Fun Centre.

Breakfast

The breakfast menu includes muffins and croissants, omelettes, french toast, oats and a DIY breakfast and prices range from R39 to R89 (the most expensive breakfast option is a “steak stack” which is R89 currently).

 

All three of the adults I was with ate from the all day breakfast menu which is two variations of scrambled eggs – one with bacon and another salmon (both are served with tomato and mushrooms, sausage and toast). Despite the limited all-day breakfast menu – the kitchen happily made my sister her white only scrambled eggs.

All Day Meals

The next section of the menu is called “All Day Meals” and includes salads, tapas plates, tramezzinis, pastas and sandwiches. Prices range from R28 for a Greek Salad to R89 for Steak Tagliatelle.

 

Classic Joneses

The final section of the menu includes burgers, “Classic Joneses” (schnitzel,roulade, pork belly and lamb shank ,  “Hearty Meals” (fish and chips, bangers and mash, beef stew and chicken curry) and meals from the Grill such as ribs and steak.

To be honest I’m not sure if this is the same menu that runs throughout the day from breakfast through to dinner but I assuming so as the “Classic Joneses” appear to be available from 6pm only. I am hoping to have enough time when I’m in PE to have a dinner with my husband.

 

For those who are into Banting – there are banting options for all three meals.

And for those in need of some wine or out for a romantic evening there is a drinks menu with wine, spirits, beers, ciders, liqueurs and cocktails.

 

 

Kids Menu

If you’re there with the kids like i was – there is an interactive kids menu that is sure to keep the kids entertained if they’re not playing “across the bridge” at Tree House. Each section of the menu is like a flip board with bright colours and pictures so its easy for them to choose what they want. My kids had chicken nuggets and chips with a side of bacon (no judging – they’re really fussy) in between running across the bridge to play.

The service was amazing from the time we arrived, we were welcomed immediately and given time to find a table that suited us. When we weren’t able to find one big enough in the area we wanted to be in they simply moved tables and umbrellas around to suit us. The waitress was attentive without being annoying and had a perpetual smile on her face.

 

Operating Hours

 

The Joneses is open from 7:30am to 10PM at night and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.
