Nursery Rhymes about Food
Here are three Nursery Rhymes about Food. These are perfect for when you’re trying to get your child to eat, even if you’re not feeding them the topic of the nursery rhyme.
All three of these Nursery Rhymes about Food have a great beat to them and you can use them to teach your child about beats and rhythms of songs. Start with the first nursery rhyme teaching the kids to clap to a beat and then get them to keep clapping through the next two.
Pat a Cake Pat a Cake
You can change the “B” for any letter. As we were teaching our son letters and sounds we used the first letter of his name. While this doesn’t rhyme with “me” it is still a great way to make the nursery rhyme about your child.
Pease Pudding Hot
When I was little I thought the nursery rhyme was Peas Pudding Hot, only when I started this series did i realise it was Pease. In case you’re wondering Pease pudding is a type of porridge made from peas. There is a further chapter to this nursery rhyme which goes “Pease Pudding Hot, Pease Pudding Cold, Some like it in the pot, nine days old.
Oranges and Lemons
I used to love this song as a school kid but reading the full version as an adult makes me realise how sinister it is. I haven’t included the full version in the image below to make it more child friendly but I have included the full version below the image.
Full Version of Oranges and Lemons
Oranges and lemons,
Say the bells of St. Clement’s.
You owe me five farthings,
Say the bells of St. Martin’s.
When will you pay me?
Say the bells of Old Bailey.
When I grow rich,
Say the bells of Shoreditch.
When will that be?
Say the bells of Stepney.
I do not know,
Says the great bell of Bow.
Here comes a candle to light you to bed,
And here comes a chopper to chop off your head!
Chip chop chip chop the last man is dead.
