Support our local travel industry that has suffered after the fires and head up to celebrate Luna New Year at Scenic World

Luna New Year at Scenic World

Scenic World is inviting visitors from near and far to celebrate Lunar New Year at Scenic World, in the Blue Mountains.

Sadly, the Blue Mountains has been affected by all the fires and the devastation. The are has really suffered this season as a result of the bush fires and it’s left the tourism industry up there in a bad way.

Everyone in the Blue Mountains has high hopes that tourism will improve following the good news that NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service have announced that they have reopened sections of the Blue Mountains National Park. The re-opening includes all lookouts, picnic areas and walking tracks from Katoomba to Wentworth Falls.

After a challenging Christmas holiday season for the Blue Mountains tourism industry, it’s hoped that celebrating the Luna New Year at Scenic World will bring a resurgence of tourists to the Blue Mountains.

Luna New Year at Scenic World

Luna New Year at Scenic World includes some festive activities to usher in the Year of the Rat in addition to everything else it has to offer.

The celebrations will run from 25 January to 9 February with the Lion Dance being featured on 1 February.

What’s On for Luna New Year at Scenic World

Jianzi

The main forecourt will be transformed into a Jianzi arena. Daily tournaments of Jianzi will be held between 11am–2pm.

Jianzi is a traditional Chinese sport with origins that date back 2000 years. The aim of the game is to keep a heavily weighted specially designed shuttlecock in the air. You can use any part of your body but NOT you hands.

I certainly didn't know what Jianzi was but now I do and it'll be played at Luna New Year at Scenic World in the Blue Mountains.

Lion Dances

There will also be a lion dance during the celebrations. The lion dance is traditionally performed during Lunar New Year celebrations to bring good luck and fortune.

The Lion Dance will take place at Scenic World on Saturday, 1 February at 11:30am.
