Botanic Gardens Easter Egg Hunt

Botanic Gardens Easter Egg Hunt

The Botanic Gardens Easter Egg hunt is very similar to the Centennial Park Easter Egg Hunt. The concept is the same and the activities are the same. Which one you go to just depends on which one is closer to you or which open space you prefer – the Parklands or the Botanic Gardens.

We did the  Botanic Gardens Easter Egg hunt in 2017 and the Centennial Parklands Hunt in 2016. This post is specially about the Botanic Gardens Easter Egg Hunt – what to expect and the logistics.

I’ve also included a couple of photos to explain what I’m trying to convey when I sound like I’m babbling.

If you go to either this year, please let me know how it went. Either drop a comment below or reach out on the AllThingsMomSydney Facebook Page. We’re off to the Vaucluse House Easter Egg Hunt this year so we will definitely share information and photos of that.

The Royal Botanic Gardens Easter Egg Hunt

The 2017 Botanic Gardens Easter Egg Hunt:  The 2017 Obstacles There are usually four obstacles for the kids to tackle. It really doesn't matter if they can do it or if you have to help them. It's just about having fun and being together as a family.

Where is the Easter Egg Hunt

The Botanic Gardens are the huge gardens that stretch from the Harbour to St Mary’s Cathedral and from the Opera House to the Art Gallery.

The address for the Botanic Gardens is Mrs Macquaries Road, Sydney, NSW 2000.

If you know where the Botanic Gardens are then aim for between the Art Gallery and the water.

The Botanic Gardens Easter Egg Hunt is situated in the South East quandrant of the Botanic Gardens. So, close to the water (as opposed to St Mary’s) and on the Art Gallery side (as opposed to the Opera House side).

How to get to the Botanic Gardens Easter Egg Hunt

There are various ways to get to the Botanic Gardens. Probably the most common are by car or by ferry. If you arrive by ferry you will get off at Circular Quay and then walk towards the Opera House, you will then see the entrance to the Botanic Gardens.

Driving, it’s best to aim for parking on Macquaries Road and park and pay. You could also park at the Domain and walk to the gardens past the Art Gallery.

There is also the option of taking the bus as Martin Place and Circular Quay stops are close by.

What to do when you get to the Botanic Gardens Easter Egg Hunt

Once you have your ticket you present yourself at the registration table just before your start time.

You will get given the very important map which shows you were to go. Your map will reflect the obstacles and the order you are meant to follow.

All in all I would say the course could take 30 minutes for 5 year olds and up and at least 40 minutes for younger kids.

There are usually four obstacles for the kids to tackle. It really doesn’t matter if they can do it or if you have to help them. It’s just about having fun and being together as a family.

At each obstacle you must remember to get your map stamped so that you can present it at the very end.

The Egg Roll

First up was the Egg Roll. Quite different to the Egg and Spoon Obstacle. In this obstacle you have to roll the end around the little cones. Thankfully, this was easy enough for the two year olds to do although it did take a bit longer for them.

Easter Quoites

The second obastable was called Easter Quoites. Essentially it was throwing hoops over little pegs in the shape of eggs. Again this was so much easier than last year’s obstacles and suitable for the two year olds in the group.

The Bunny Hop

Next up was the Bunny Hop. My goodness this was amusing. The photograph of how it played out is below.

Only our 4 year old managed to hop in the sack by himself. There was an almighty struggle between gravity and my 2 year old and I’m not sure she even got off the ground. Funnier though was me holding the sack trying to get her in the air.

Egg Hunt

Lastly the kids were sent on a little mini course where they had to find little plastic eggs.  There are a few spots in a designated area where lots of the little plastic things are hidden.

Easter Eggs at the Botanic Gardens Easter Egg Hunt

At each of the obstacles the kids get a small little Easter Egg. One of the really little ones so dont worry there isn’t too much sugar involved.

Once all the obstacles have been completed you head off to meet the Easter Bunny.

Upon meeting the Easter Bunny the kids get given one very big Darrel Lea Easter Egg.

What to take with you

Easter basket

The kids will be given a little egg each time they complete an obstacle so you will need something to put them in. They will also need something to collect the plastic eggs in if they keep that this year.

Dress Up?

We didn’t do a dress up the first year we went and then almost all the other kids had some easter thing attached to them – ears, a tail or something like that. This year no one was really dressed up except for the little Disney princesses – Elsas , Annas and Belles. If you’re worried just pack a pair of ears 🙂

Picnic?

The beauty of the Botanic Gardens Easter Egg Hunt is the location. This year we decided to stay behind and try dilute the Easter Egg consumption with picnic food. It was lovely and such a great day. We will be doing the Easter Egg Hunt again this year followed by a picnic.

Happy Easter from our family to yours.
